Squash: 3 Egyptians advance in Women’s World Championship

Three Egyptians advanced on Friday to the second round of the Orascom Development PSA Women’s World Championship held in Gouna, Egypt.

Top seed Nour El Sherbini claimed an easy 3-0 win over Canadian qualifier Samantha Cornett (11-2, 11-4, 11-6). The defending champion and current World No.1 will play in the second round against Welsh Tesni Evans.

World No.5 Nouran Gohar defeated her compatriot and World No.23 Nadine Shahin 3-0 (11-4, 11-6, 11-5). Egypt’s Nour El Tayeb, World No.12, also defeated Egyptian qualifier Hania El Hammamy 3-0 (11-5, 11-6, 11-9), to set up an all-Egyptian clash in the second round with Gohar.

Both Zeina Mickawy and Rowan Elaraby failed to advance after losing to Victoria Lust (3-0) and Annie Au (3-0) respectively.

Egypt’s Raneem El Welily, Heba El Torky, Mariam Metwally, Hana Ramadan and Salma Hany Ibrahim will play their first round matches on Saturday.
