Egypt’s Ramadan Sobhi nominated for Golden Boy award
Stoke City winger Ramadan Sobhi has been nominated for the Golden Boy award, given to the most impressive player in Europe under the age of 21.
Sobhi, 20, is among 98 nominees who could qualify for the 2017 Golden Boy award, run by the Italian newspaper Tuttosport. The list includes Milan’s keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, Manchester City’s forward Gabriel Jesus and Manchester United’s forward Marcus Rashford among others.
Renato Sanches, who was named 2016’s European Golden Boy, was included in this year’s list. Sobhi’s teammate Thibaud Verlinden is also among the nominees.
Previous winners of the prestigious award that has been running since 2003 include Wayne Rooney, Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero and Paul Pogba.
The Egypt international joined Stoke from Al Ahly in July and he has since made 16 appearances in the league and the cup for the Potters.
