Egypt’s Smouha held South African side Bidvest Wits to a 0-0 draw in their CAF Confederation Cup play-off first leg in Bidvest Wits.

The Blues qualified to the play-off round after defeating Kenya’s Ulinzi Stars 4-3 on aggregate, while the South African side were knocked out of the Champions League by Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

Smouha will host Bidvest Wits in Alexandria still dreaming of a possible place in the group-stages after a goalless draw at the Clever Boys’ ground.

Ahmed Hassan Mekky came so close to score the opening goal after he went one-on-one with Bidvest’s goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs, but the latter dealt with the forward well.

Smouha’s goalkeeper Mohamed Abougabal was forced to make a number of good saves, especially in the 78th minute when the South African side nearly scored and hit the crossbar.

The Alexandria based-side will host Bidvest on Saturday, April 15 at Borg El-Arab stadium, hoping to become the second Egyptian side to win the Confederation Cup after Al Ahly in 2014.

Smouha are currently fourth in the Egyptian Premier League with 40 points, while Bidvest sit second with 41 points, only one points behind leaders Cape Town City, but Wits have two games in hand.
