Ahmad: We will collaborate with African stars to enhance football
New Confederation of African Football president Ahmad Ahmad revealed that he will cooperate with famous African football figures to enhance African football, discussed broadcasting rights and African Cup of Nations new calendar.
Ahmad, who unseated long reining Issa Hayatou, said in an interview on Friday that he has been in contact recently with African football superstars to help develop football in the region.
“I have spoken to Drogba on the telephone, I saw Abedi Pele, my colleague’s seen Samuel Eto’o, I talked to Patrick M’boma,” he said. “CAF will organize a meeting soon with representatives of these African stars to discuss their future collaboration with the Confederation of African Football.”
The Malagasy also discussed the broadcasting rights contract made with Lagardere Sports during Hayatou’s term assuring that the contract needs to be reviewed again. Egyptian Competitions Authorities referred Hayatou to General Prosecutor for corruption charges and asked CAF for quick measures regarding this agreement with the French company.
As for changing the African Cup of Nations calendar from winter to summer, Ahmad said that anything that concerns CAN is a priority to him and that he will start by listening to everyone and opening up a debate about the issue before taking any actions.
