Volleyball: Al Ahly reach Women’s African Volleyball quarter-finals
Al Ahly women volleyball team managed to qualify to the 2017 Women African Volleyball Club Championship after defeating AS Marsa 3-0.
The team coach and former volleyball player, Hamdy El-Safy, led Al Ahly to thrash AS Marsa on Monday and secured a spot in the quarter-finals of the tournament that takes place in Carthage, Tunisia.
This is the third consecutive win for the Red Devils after the club defeated Kenya Prisons 3-1 and first-time participants University of Zimbabwe 3-0 in the previous rounds. The defending champions are currently leading Pool B in which they were drawn in alongside Zimbabwe’s University, Marsa of Tunisia, Algeria’s Bejaia and Kenya Prisons.
Al Ahly, who were recently crowned Egypt Cup champions, will face Algeria’s Bejaia in the next match to complete the first round.
Egypt’s other representative, El-Shams, also secured their second round tickets after defeating Sfaxien of Tunisia 3-0 (25-23, 25-10, 25-21) assuring their Pool D domination.
