Abdel-Shafy features as Al Ahli draw with Al-Ain in AFC Champions League
Egypt international Mohamed Abdel-Shafy played 90 minutes in Ahli’s 2-2 draw with UAE side Al-Ain on Tuesday in Matchday 4 of the AFC Champions League.
An intense start to the game led Al Ain to take an early lead through Ismail Ahmed from Omar Abdelrahman’s assist after six minutes.
Only two minutes before halftime, Omar Al Somah drew Al Ahli level after Mohamed Al-Fatil’s assist.
The second half followed much of the same pattern with chances being shared between the two sides. Only five minutes before full time, Al Somah handled the ball inside the box and Al Ain were awarded a penalty, which Omar Abdelrahman coolly slotted home.
Al Somah made up for his mistake four minutes later as he equalised for Al Ahli once again as the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
The result leaves Al Ahli top of their group with 8 points from four games, one point ahead of second-placed Zob Ahan Esfahan. In the other group game, Zob Ahan defeated Bunyodkor Tashkent 2-1.
Al Ahli will travel to play against Bunyodkor Tashkent, who sit at the bottom of Group C with zero points, on April 24. The Saudi side had claimed a 2-0 victory over Bunyodkor of Uzbekistan in their group opener.
