Squash: Gawad, Dessouky set up all-Egyptian El Gouna International semi-final
Egyptian duo Karim Abdel Gawad and Fares Dessouky booked on Wednesday their spots in the semi-final of the El Gouna International Squash Open.
World Champion Gawad defeated German No.1 Simon Rösner 3-1 (13-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-2) in 52 minutes to set up an all-Egyptian semi-final with Dessouky, who overcame Peruvian Diego Elias 3-1 (11-7, 7-11, 12-10, 12-10) in a clash that lasted for 127 minutes.
Gawad had reached the quarter-final after defeating Spain’s Borja Golan while the World No.9 overcame Australia’s Ryan Cuskelly en route to the last eight.
Egypt’s Marwan ElShorbagy, World No.5, had already secured his spot in the tournament’s semis after defeating his brother Mohamed 3-0 on Tuesday. This marked Marwan’s second victory over his older brother after he defeated him for the first time in February at the Windy City Open. Marwan will face World No.1 Gregory Gaultier in the semi-final on April 13.
