Pharaohs Abroad Roundup: Hafez features in Lens’ loss to Auxerre

Karim Hafez – Lens (France)
April 15 – Ligue 2 – Egypt’s Karim Hafez played the full 90 minutes as Auxerre defeated Lens 1-0 in the 33rd round of the French Ligue 2 on Saturday. Lionel Mathis scored the game’s only goal in the 42nd minute to earn his side a valuable three points. Following this loss, Lens currently occupy the third place with 55 points, four points behind league leaders Brest.
Omar Gaber – Basel (Switzerland)
April 15 – Super League – Basel won 4-0 away at Lausanne in clinical fashion, with Mohamed Elyounoussi scoring twice before Andraz Sporar scored his first league goal for the Swiss giants. Omar Gaber’s positional rival, Michael Lang, also scored the first goal. The result means Basel move 20 points clear of Young Boys, who play against Grasshoppers on Monday. Basel’s next game is at home against Liechtenstein-based strugglers Vaduz on the April 22.
Mohamed Elneny – Arsenal (England)
April 17 – Premier League – Egypt’s Mohamed Elneny watched from the bench as Arsenal defeated Middlesbrough 2-1 in the Premier League. Following the win, Arsenal currently occupy the sixth league spot with 57 points and are set to face Manchester City in the FA Cup on April 23.
