Smouha reach CAF Confederation Cup group stage

Smouha managed to qualify to the CAF Confederation Cup group stage for the first time after beating Bidvest of South Africa 1-0 in their second leg match.

The Alexandria-based club held the South African side for a goalless draw in the away match last week, before beating them at home in the second leg of the round of 32 to reach the group stage.

In the first half of the match, Smouha tried to score an early goal against the South African side, but they failed due to the strong defense of Bidvest. The guests tried to use the counter attack to score an away but they failed.

Around the half-hour mark, the referee awarded Smouha a penalty that was converted by Ahmed Hassan Mekki as the home side took the lead.

During the second-half, Bidvest kept looking for an equaliser but they failed. The final 25 minutes of the game saw the hosts regain control of the possession.

Bidvest gave it a last try in the final 10 minutes but Smouha’s defense managed to stay strong through those minutes to send the Alexandrian team to their first ever group stage in the Confederation Cup.
