Ivorian striker Souleymane Coulibaly scored as Al Ahly defeated Aswan 2-0 in the 24th fixture of the Egyptian Premier league on Sunday.

Two first-half goals helped Al Ahly collect the three points and claim their sixth straight league win.

The Red Devils managed to take an early lead, as a cross from Tunisian left-back Ali Maaloul found Mido Gaber, who hit the woodwork before placing the ball into Aswan’s empty net from the rebound. This marked Gaber’s first league goal with Al Ahly this season.

Only three minutes later, Ivorian striker Coulibaly met Ahmed Fathi’s cross with a diving header into Aswan’s net, making it 2-0 for the Cairo giants.

The hosts nearly pulled one back, but Razak Cisse’s effort hit the bar. Three minutes before the break, Gaber tried a powerful strike from the edge of the box, but his effort went above the bar.

Both teams failed to score further goals until the referee blew the half-time whistle.

Twenty minutes into the second half, Al Ahly manager Hossam El-Badry brought on Walid Soliman to replace Gaber. Hossam Ghaly and Amr Gamal then came on instead of Abdallah El-Said and Coulibaly.

In the dying moments of the game, the Red Devils keeper Sherif Ekramy made a fine save to keep a clean sheet at Aswan Stadium.

It’s worth mentioning that Al Ahly have conceded just four goals in 24 league matches this season, keeping 21 clean sheets.

Following the win, Al Ahly top the league table with 64 points, while Aswan remain in the relegation zone as they occupy the 16th league spot with 18 points.
