KCCA FC captain Denis Okot spoke about his team’s important win against Al Masry in the round of 32 of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Egyptian side was eliminated in Ismailia after losing 4-3 on penalties. Al Masry managed to score at home to level the aggregate score 1-1, however, the game went to penalty shootouts which Kampala City Capital Authority (KCCA) was able to win and achieved a new African record for Ugandan football by being the first Ugandan team to qualify to this stage.

“I am happy as the captain to lead the team to the group stage. We tried qualifying in the CAF Champions League but failed so this CAF Confederation Cup was meant for us, it was not easy but we had all our focus on it and now our dream came through,” Okot told the press after the match.

When asked about what made the team play their hearts out in the away match in Egypt Okot said: “We played as a team and followed our manager’s instructions. That’s what made us qualify to the next round,” he concluded.
