El-Badry convinced by abilities of ‘important’ Al Ahly striker Coulibaly
Al Ahly manager Hossam El-Badry has stressed he’s convinced by the abilities of Souleymane Coulibaly, saying the Ivorian striker just needed time to integrate into the team.
Several news reports previously claimed that El-Badry, who had repeatedly excluded Coulibaly from the starting line-up, wasn’t convinced by the player’s abilities. However, the Al Ahly coach denied these claims after the 22-year-old forward managed to score four goals in as many league matches.
“We are convinced with all the new signings,” El-Badry told Nagham FM radio station.
“The difference for Coulibaly is that we couldn’t watch him play except on CDs due to lack of time and his schedule in Europe, but we signed him knowing that he’s a quality player.”
El-Badry explained that Coulibaly, who joined the Cairo giants from Scottish side Kilmarnock in January, needed some time to integrate into the team before being included in the starting line-up.
“Some players need some time to adapt when they arrive at a new club because they get nervous when they feel they are under pressure.
“If I weren’t convinced by his abilities he wouldn’t have played,” said the Al Ahly manager.
When asked if Coulibaly is Al Ahly’s first choice striker, El-Badry said that the January recruit is a very important player for the team.
The 57-year-old coach added that there were other players that convinced the technical team but they couldn’t sign them either due to their financial demands or because they played in Europe.
