Smouha salvage point against Ismaily in four-goal thriller
Mahmoud Abdel-Aziz scored a late goal to secure a point for Smouha in their 2-2 draw against Ismaily in the 24th round of the Egyptian Premier League on Wednesday.
Ismaily went into the break with a 1-0 lead after they claimed an early advantage in the ninth minute when Ibrahim Hassan scored directly from a corner kick.
The second half kicked off in the same manner as the hosts doubled their lead only three minutes after the break, with Colombian forward Diego Calderon sending an unstoppable strike into the top corner of the net.
However, Burkinabé Patrick Malo pulled one back for the Alexandrian club after heading a corner into Ismaily’s net around the one-hour mark.
In the dying minutes of the game, Smouha managed to equalise as Ismaily defenders failed to deal with Smouha’s free-kick in the first minute of the additional time with Mahmoud Abdel-Aziz finishing from close range.
Ismaily almost made it 3-2 when Ibrahim Hassan scored the third goal in the dying moments of the additional time but it was ruled off for offside, as the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
The draw sends Smouha to the fourth place with 41 points, while Ismaily are in the seventh place with 34 points.
