Al Hilal crowned league champions over Abdel-Shafy’s Al Ahli, Kahraba’s Ittihad
Al Hilal sealed their 14th Saudi Professional League title after beating Al Shabab 2-1 in the 24th round on Thursday.
The Riyadh-based team have been confirmed champions with two games to spare, after they reached 60 points from 24 matches, 11 points ahead of second-placed Al Nasr, who have 49 points from 23 matches.
Al Hilal ended five-year drought of not winning the league title, as their last triumph came in the 2010-2011 season, losing the title to Al-Shabab, Al-Fateh, Al-Nassr (twice), and Mohamed Abdel-Shafy’s Al Ahli since then.
Al Hilal and Al Ahli may still go head to head in the King Cup final, as they both will face Al-Taawoun and Al-Faisaly in the semi-finals respectively, which may leave a chance for Mohamed Abdel-Shafy, who could return to his former club Zamalek, to win a silverware this season.
