Coulibaly scores again as Al Ahly edge past Tanta
Al Ahly continued their winning streak after beating Tanta 1-0 on Monday, in the 25th round of the Egyptian Premier League.
The first real threat came after 11 minutes from Abdallah El-Said, whose shot from the edge of the box went wide.
Tanta’s Hussein Helmy was behind his side’s first chance in the 19th minute, after trying a long shot that failed to test Ekramy.
It was the 36th minute as Coulibaly managed to break the deadlock, continuing his brilliant form as he added his fifth goal in five games.
The Ivorian striker collected Hossam Ashour’s weak shot inside the box, then dribbled past Tanta’s defender before firing in the net with his left foot, giving Al Ahly a narrow advantage at the break.
Tanta started the second half stronger, as they pushed up in an attempt to search for an equaliser; Denis played a cross into Al Ahly’s penalty area, but Joseph failed to finish the opportunity.
Coulibaly was on the verge of adding his second goal of the game in the 75th minute, but Tanta’s goalkeeper Islam Tarek made a brilliant save to turn it around for a corner.
The Red Devils took another step closer to the Premier League title after claiming the 67th point from 25 games, 10 ahead of second-placed Misr Al-Maqassa, who lost on Saturday against Wadi Degla.
