UAE side Al Ain have announced that they will not be participating in the Arab Club Championship set to be held in Cairo in July.

Mohamed Ebeid Hamad, a member of Al Ain’s board, confirmed that his side won’t be able to take part in the competition, based on a decision by Croatian coach Zoran Mamić.

“There are technical and organisational aspects related to the preparation for the new season, and in line with the technical side, we decided to not participate in the Arab Championship,” Hamad said, according to Al Ain’s Twitter account.

“Based on a report from coach Zoran Mamic, we decided to withdraw from the tournament, especially that it does not serve our preparation program for the new football season,” Hamad continued.

“Most of the players need to get as much rest as possible as the majority of them have been participating with the national team, the Champions League and local championships over three years,” Hamad concluded.

The Egyptian Football Association ‘EFA’ had announced in March the names of 12 clubs that will be participating in the Championship, which was last held in 2013. The list included Cairo giants Al Ahly and Zamalek.
