Former Portuguese player Abel Ferreira has been named new head coach for SC Braga with his contract running until 2020.

SC Braga, who have Egypt international Ahmed Hassan ‘Koka’ in their ranks, signed Ferreira just one day after parting ways with coach Jorge Simao.

A string of poor results ended Simao’s reign that started last winter; a 3-1 loss against Pacos de Ferreira was the last straw as they parted ways with Jorge right after the game.

Ferreira, 38, has held previous managerial positions as he was coaching the Braga B team from 2015.

“I have confidence and I will do everything to achieve your dream. I promise to organise the team, make it disciplined and competitive,” Ferreira said.

“One thing you can be sure of: I do not know if we’re going to win all the games, but we’ll fight until the last drop of sweat to win every game,” he added.
