Jose: Shikabala should have joined Al Ahly
Former Al Ahly legendary coach Manuel Jose said he was eager to sign Zamalek winger Shikabala back in the January transfer window of the 2007/2008 season.
At that time, Shikabala was returning to Egypt after spending two years in Greece with PAOK. The player signed contracts with the Red Devils yet the move was not completed after he decided to return to the Whites.
“Shikabala was a special player, I wanted him to join Al Ahly,” the Portuguese coach told Al Ahly TV channel. “He changed his mind after signing the contracts. He could have achieved more success with us.”
The former coach said that the winger could have performed better playing with Al Ahly’s stunning and humble squad back then. “He lost a lot, we didn’t lose anything because, in the end, we got all the titles without him,” he concluded.
After returning to Zamalek in 2007, Shikabala stayed with the White Knights till 2013 when he was loaned to Al Wasl for one year and then moved to Portugal to join Sporting CP where he only played one match. He later returned to Egypt in as a loanee to Ismaily before returning eventually to Zamalek again.
