Al Masry miss chance to close gap on Zamalek with defeat against Ismaily
A late goal from Mohamed Hashem gave Ismaily a 2-1 victory over Al Masry on Friday, in a game that saw Ismaily’s Mahmoud Metwaly score for both sides.
The referee awarded the Ismailia-based side a penalty for handball as Metawly scored from the spot to put Ismaily ahead just before halftime.
However, in the second half, Metwaly went from hero to zero, when he turned the ball into his own net to restore parity in the 78th minute.
In the additional time, Mohamed Hashem headed home from a corner to restore his side’s lead and seal a 2-1 victory for Ismaily over Al Masry.
Ismaily have now moved two places from 10th position to 8th in the Egyptian Premier League standings with 39 points.
Al Masry, who have a game in hand, remain fourth with 43 points. The Port Said-based side wasted a chance to narrow the gap with third-placed Zamalek, who were held to a goalless draw by Tanta.
