Zamalek were held to a goalless draw against Tanta in gameweek 26 of the Egyptian Premier League at Ghazl El Mahalla Stadium on Friday.

The White Knights put in a below-par performance against Tanta as they failed to claim a third win in a row under the leadership of Augusto Inacio. The Portuguese manager had guided the team to victories against Tala’a El-Gaish and Al Masry after a consecutive four-game win drought.

Zamalek failed to create any decent goal scoring chances during the first half. On the other hand, Tanta looked more resolute and had a couple of attempts but still failed to create clear cut chances as both teams headed into the tunnel at half-time goalless.

The Cairo giants kicked off the second half in much of the same manner as the first, failing to pose a real threat to Tanta.

Tanta almost made it 1-0 in the 64th minutes after substitute Mohamed Gouda headed home from a corner, but the referee ruled the goal out and awarded the visitors a free-kick.

Thirteen minutes from time, Zamalek were close to taking the lead but Ahmed Refaat’s effort hit the woodwork as the game remained goalless.

Following the draw, Zamalek remain third on 47 points, four clear of fourth-placed Al Masry who suffered a 2-1 defeat against Ismaily. The Port Said-based side played one game less than the White Castle.

Meanwhile, Tanta moved to the 13th place on 25 points, five away from the relegation zone.
