Egypt international Karim Hafez played 90 minutes as RC Lens claimed a priceless three points after beating Laval 2-0 in the 35th round of Ligue 2.

Victories of Amiens and Troyes over the weekend put RC Lens under pressure ahead of their game with Laval, as the race for promotion from Ligue 2 intensified. Lens, who were sixth in the standings, knew that collecting the three points would send them back to the promotion playoff position.

The game remained goalless until the 85th minute when substitute Cristian Lopez opened the scoring for Lens. The Spanish striker then completed his brace in the fifth minute of the additional time to secure the three points for his side.

The victory sends RC Lens back to the third position with 58 points, surpassing Amiens and Troyes who dropped to the fourth and fifth positions respectively with 57 points each.

Karim Hafez’s side are now one point away from second-placed Stade Brest. They will host league leaders Strasbourg on Monday.
