Egyptian international Omar Gaber spoke about his experience with FC Basel in the past year and winning the Swiss Super League.

Gaber became the fourth Egypt international to win the league title with Basel after Ahmed Hamoudi, Mohamed Elneny and Mohamed Salah. The former Zamalek player played nine matches with Basel and was able to make two assists.

“Winning a title abroad is important for me especially in my first year with the team. I hope we are crowned with more titles in the next period,” the 25-year-old told ExtraNews TV channel. “I took part in all competitions this season which includes the Swiss League, Swiss Cup and Champions League.”

Gaber said that he feels optimistic about starting more matches next season. “Things will improve especially that a new coach was assigned. I still have three more seasons in my contract with the team,” he added.

As for not being able to join the national team after the 2017 African Cup of Nations, Gaber explained that he was not able to join the Pharaohs in March since he is not playing regularly with Basel. “I have to respect the technical staff’s decisions. I am in constant contact with the technical staff,” he explained.

The young player also spoke about moving to another club in the next summer transfer window saying: “I wish my club receives a good offer in the summer but if they didn’t then I will continue with Basel normally.”

He concluded his comments speaking about Zamalek’s latest poor results. “I feel sad for what is happening to Zamalek. I hope the new coach Augusto Inacio can achieve the league title along with the CAF Champions League,” he said.
