Elmohamady starts as Hull lose 2-0 to already relegated Sunderland
Ahmed Elmohamady started and played 86 minutes for Hull, who were unable to pick up any points off of already relegated Sunderland.
Hull City would’ve been desperate to pick up points in front of their own crowd, against already relegated Sunderland. The Tigers had been excellent at the KCOM Stadium recently, picking up 19 points from their previous 7 matches.
The home side created their fair share of chances, the most notable of which came through a Markovic header from Elmohamady’s cross. However, the young Sunderland keeper Jordan Pickford was not to be beaten, picking up the man of the match award after making several key stops.
Both of Sunderland’s goals came off of set pieces, leaving Hull manager Marco Silva frustrated after the match. The first of the two was the result of a corner in the 69th minute, which Billy Jones headed home after a flick on from John O’Shea. Veteran talisman Jermaine Defoe would see out the game with a late 92nd minute goal, after a foul on Hull’s left hand side.
Elmohamady was subbed off in the 86th minute, after committing a foul in the 83rd minute that earned him a booking.
With Swansea City picking up a key 1-0 win against Everton, the Tigers are now a point behind The Swans and minus 5 on goal differential. Hull will play against fifth from bottom Crystal Palace on 14 May, in what is sure to be a crucial match for their hopes in staying up.
