Pharaohs Abroad Roundup: Sobhi remains on bench as Stoke draw with Bournemouth
KingFut rounds up the Pharaohs Abroad action across Europe this week, to keep you up to date with Egyptian players overseas.
Ahmed Hassan ‘Kouka’ – SC Braga (Portugal)
May 5 – Primeira Liga: Braga suffered a 2-1 defeat against Moreirense in the 32nd fixture of the Portuguese Primeira Liga. Following the loss, Braga currently occupy the fifth league spot with 51 points and are set to face Nacional on May 14.
Ramadan Sobhi – Stoke City (England)
May 6 – English Premier League: Egypt’s Ramadan Sobhi watched from the bench as Stoke City played out a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth in the 36th fixture of the Premier league. Following the draw, Stoke City currently sit 13th with 41 points and are set to face Mohamed Elneny’s Arsenal on May 13.
Mahmoud ‘Trézéguet’ Hassan – Mouscron (Belgium)
May 6 – Europa League play-offs:: Lokeren held Mouscron to a 2-2 draw in a Europa League playoff that will most likely see neither side finish in the qualification places. Aristote Nkaka and Nathan Kabasele put Mouscron 2-0 up after just 19 minutes, however, they let their lead slip in the second half with Koen Persoon and Marko Miric finding the back of the net. Mouscron’s manager has already stated that Trezeguet will play no further part this season, however, their next game is at home against leaders Genk.
Sam Morsy – Wigan Athletic (England)
May 7 – Championship: Wigan ended their Championship campaign with a whimper as they drew 1-1 with Leeds. Ryan Tunnicliffe got the Latics off the mark from a corner, however, they let the lead slip in the second half thanks to league top scorer Chris Wood. The result is largely irrelevant to the overall scheme of the league, as both sides were guaranteed a 23rd and 7th placed position respectively. Sam Morsy’s future at the club remains uncertain, as his individually good season may attract some Championship sides.
Mohamed Elneny – Arsenal (England)
May 10 – English Premier League: Egypt’s Mohamed Elneny was left out of the squad as Arsenal earned a 2-0 win away at Southampton. After a goalless first half, Alexis Sanchez’s clever turn left him with an easy finish to make it 1-0. Aaron Ramsey’s header across goal found Olivier Giroud who had a simple finish to put the game beyond all doubt late on. The result means that Arsenal are now three points away from the Champions League places.
