EXCLUSIVE | Zamalek’s Moruf Yusuf braced for Nigeria call-up

Zamalek midfielder Moruf Yusuf braced for call-up to the Nigerian national team with the coaching staff set to contact him over the possibility of joining the squad.

Moruf, 24, has come under the spotlight following his performances with Zamalek in the league and Africa’s continental club competition the CAF Champions League, with Gernot Rohr telling his assistants to contact the player.

Ever since his move to Zamalek from Ittihad Al-Shorta, the center midfielder has been an integral part of the team’s setup despite the several managerial changes the team has undergone.

KingFut sources confirm that Moruf might be called up to the squad do to his ability to play as a make-shift left-back, as the team lacks quality players in that position.

Moruf’s first match as a left-back came when Zamalek took on Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa in the CAF Champions League final last year, but came under heavy criticism following the team’s 3-0 loss in the first leg.

The Super Eagles are set to host South Africa in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on the 9th of June.
