Egypt international Karim Hafez grabbed an assist to help Cristian Lopez complete his hat-trick, as RC Lens recorded a massive 4-0 win over Ajaccio on Friday.

This match was crucial for Hafez’s side, especially after their quest for the Ligue 1 playoff position suffered a setback last week. The victory leaves Lens in contention for the promotion playoff spot going into the final matchday.

RC Lens opened their scoring account in the 15th minute through Central African Republic forward Habib Habibou. Kevin Fortune, who assisted the first goal, then won RC Lens a penalty in the 42nd minute. It was duly converted by Cristian Lopez, to put Lens on their way to victory.

After the restart, the Blood and Gold needed around 25 minutes to make it 3-0. Cristian Lopez scored in the 69th minute against the dominated Ajaccio. Kevin Fortune was also involved in this goal for his third assist of the night.

There was still time left for Lopez to finish a hat-trick and he did just that. Egypt defender Karim Hafez set him up nicely for the 4-0 scoreline in the 88th minute. Cristian Lopez was subbed one minute later to applause from the away fans.

The win leaves Lens with 62 points from the 37 matches. The team is only one point behind third-placed Troyes who occupy a promotion playoff position, going into the final matchday. Lens will hope luck is on their side when they host Niort at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis on Friday.

I have dedicated part of my time in this bad world to following African football. From CECAFA to WAFU, COSAFA to UNAF & even the forgotten UNIFFAC.
