Additional assistant referees to officiate in Egypt this season
Head of refereeing committee Essam Abdel-Fattah has announced that the additional assistant referees (AAR) system will be used in the last four rounds of the league.
The additional assistant referee (AAR) is an official that assists the referee behind the goal line, informing him of incidents of any kind that he may otherwise have missed near the penalty area, but the final decision will always be taken by the referee.
“There are some matches which are shot with only three cameras, so it’s hard to apply the video assistance technology right now. It won’t be fair for some teams,” Abdel-Fattah told Mega FM radio station.
“I will have a meeting with Hany Abou-Rida (EFA Chairman) to discuss the cameras issues, but for now the additional assistant referee system will be applied,” he added.
It’s worth mentioning that there are only six rounds remaining in the Egyptian Premier League this season, with Al Ahly leading the table with 74 points, 11 points away from second-placed Misr El-Maqassa.
