Farid scores late as Al Ahly are held to a draw by Sharkia

Al Ahly conceded late as they were held to a 1-1 draw against Sharkia in the 29th round of the at Salam Stadium.

The first threat for the league leaders came after seven minutes. Abdallah El-Said collected Mohamed Hany’s excellent cross in the penalty area between Sharkia’s defenders, but Sharkia’s goalkeeper forced a great save to deny Al Ahly’s early lead.

11 minutes later, Amr El-Sulya was very close to opening the scoring for Al Ahly when he sent a strike from distance, but his shot was deflected and it went inches wide.

In the 24th minute, Ajayi benefited off Abdel-Rahman Hassaan’s poor pass before finding Coulibaly near the penalty area’s edge who sent a powerful shot, but his effort found Sharkia’s goalkeeper hands.

Shortly before halftime, Abdallah was on verge of giving Al Ahly the lead when he headed Ahmed Fathi’s cross but it inched past Sharkia’s right post.

One minute before the half time whistle, Saad Samir broke the deadlock to give Al Ahly the lead. Abdallah El-Said’s corner on the left side was met by Samir with a powerful header that found net.

10 minutes into the second half Coulibaly had the chance to double Al Ahly’s lead after heading Mido Gaber’s cross, but it went wide.

In the 77th minute, Amr Gamal missed a huge opportunity to secure the points for Al Ahly. Ahmed Fathi started a brilliant counterattack before sending Amr Gamal on one-on-one with the goalkeeper but his shot couldn’t get past Sharkia’s goalkeeper.

In the 81st minute, Sharkia punished Al Ahly for the missing chances and scored a shocking equalizer through Fady Farid who headed a freekick on the right side into Sherif Ekramy’s net.

Al Ahly pressed high in the remaining minutes of the game to restore their lead but Sharkia managed to defend the goal as both teams share the game’s point following the final whistle.
