Elneny watches from bench as Arsenal miss out on Champions League
Mohamed Elneny watched from the bench as Arsenal defeated Everton 3-1, but failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in 20 years.
Arsenal managed to score the first goal in the eighth minute through Bellerin’s shot, after a pass from Ozil that was missed by Welbeck.
The Londoners were in control, but there was a huge twist in the 14th minute when Koscielny got a red card after a reckless challenge on Enner Valencia.
After the red card both teams were more evenly matched, but the match was getting more tense and physical.
In the 27th minute Alexis Sanchez scored from a Welbeck pass, despite the hosts being a man down.
In the 58th minute Rob Holding handled the ball inside the box and Lukaku made no mistake from the spot.
Everton started pushing for the equalizer after halving the deficit, and Sanchez was also subbed off as Nigeria’s Alex Iwobi took his place.
In the 91st minute Ramsey sealed the win a wonderful strike, but Arsenal will nevertheless have to do without Champions League football next season, after finishing in fifth place.
The Gunners will be playing European football however, having qualified for the Europa League group stages.
