Salah, El Shaarawy star as Roma come back to defeat Chievo
Egypt international Mohamed Salah scored once in each half to inspire Roma to a 3-5 comeback victory over Chievo Verona on Saturday, in the penultimate match of the Serie A season.
Lucas Nahuel Castro fired the hosts into the lead in the 15th minute, as Luciano Spalletti’s men suddenly found themselves on the back foot.
Stephan El Shaarawy equalised for the Giallorossi 13 minutes later, before Roberto Inglese restored his side’s lead eight minutes before half-time.
Roma refused to lay down, however, and Salah’s curling effort found the far corner just five minutes later to send his side into the break on level terms.
El Shaarawy – who is of Egyptian origin – put Roma in the lead for the first time in the match just before the hour mark, as Chievo struggled to contain their opponents’ lethal wingers.
With 14 minutes to play, Salah then made the points safe with a clinical finish, as Roma threatened to run up the score.
Dzeko scored his customary goal in the final 10 minutes, before Inglese completed his brace for the hosts with seconds to spare.
The win sees Roma maintain second place in the Serie A standings, but with Napoli cruising 4-1 past Fiorentina on the same day, the capital club will need a win at home to Genoa on the final day of the season to guarantee automatic Champions League football next season.
