Ramadan Sobhi features as Stoke end the season on high
Egyptian youngster Ramadan Sobhi played all 90 minutes as Stoke City sealed a 1-0 victory at Southampton in their last game of the 2016/17 English Premier League season.
Southampton were able to take over possession for most of the first half, but couldn’t break through Stoke’s defense.
In the 33th minute, Southampton managed to find spaces in Stoke’s back-line as Ryan Bertrand was picked out by Tadic on the left side before sending a low cross towards Austin, whose low strike went wide.
Mark Hughes men improved dramatically in the last ten minutes of the first half, and Shaqiri had the chance to put Stoke in front in the 40th minute after a nice pass from Sobhi but his effort from close range hit the side-netting.
One minute later, Shakiri was in the thick of action again after exchange of passes between Stoke’s players near the edge of the box, but his 20-yard strike went over.
14 minutes into the second half, Stoke City’s striker Peter Crouch broke the deadlock to give Stoke the advantage after he headed Cameron’s impressive cross into Forster’s net.
In the 67th minute, Ramadan Sobhi was shown a yellow card following a foul on Southampton’s Sofiane Boufal.
After conceding the goal, Southampton improved slightly; Manolo Gabbiadini missed a huge opportunity for an equalizer when he went one-on-one with the Butland, but the goalkeeper denied him.
Jack Butland again forced another huge save to deny Boufal from equalizing the results for the host eight minutes before the final whistle gave the three points to Stoke City.
Stoke City finished the season in 13th place with 44 points, two behind Southampton who finished in eighth.
