VIDEO: Maqassa stunned at home by relentless Ittihad
Ittihad of Alexandria scored three times in Fayoum to condemn Misr El-Maqassa to yet another defeat, as their league woes continued.
After losing 1-0 to Petrojet earlier this month, Maqassa fell to a second successive league defeat – and their third in five matches – as they were duly dispatched 3-1 by an efficient Ittihad of Alexandria side.
The impressive Kabongo Kassongo gave the visitors the lead in the 28th minute, and the result held until the break, which meant Maqassa had failed to score in four consecutive halves.
Kassongo then doubled his side’s advantage on the hour mark, before Mohamed Atwa compounded Ehab Galal’s woes with a third goal just 11 minutes later.
John Antwi scored a consolation goal deep into added time, but it was too little to late for Maqassa, who are now 12 points behind Al Ahly with five rounds remaining.
A loss against Al Ahly on the 29th of May will mathematically seal the title for the latter club, although it is unlikely that the Red Devils will let a lead of this magnitude slip under any circumstances, should the Fayoum-based club manage a positive result in nine days’ time.
