Christian Atsu completes permanent switch to Newcastle
Ghana internationa Christian Atsu has joined Newcastle United on permanent basis from Chelsea, the Magpies have announced on Wednesday.
Atsu joined Newcastle last summer on loan from Chelsea, with the newly promoted club acquiring an option to buy him at the end of the current season.
After making 32 appearances for the Magpies in the Championship, scoring five goals, the club opted to trigger the 25-year-old’s option to buy for an undisclosed fee, tying him down to a four-year contract.
According to Newcastle’s statement, the transfer is subject to Atsu successfully reapplying for a work permit.
By his turn, Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez said he is glad to have a ‘key’ player like Atsu staying at the club.
“We are happy to sign a good player. He’s shown us that he’s a good professional and someone who is very keen to learn and improve,” Benitez told Newcastle’s official website.
“Christian has been a key part of our promotion campaign and he wants to help us to build something for the future.”
