Smouha cruise past Recreativo to take control of Group C

Smouha Recreativo do Libolo

After losing 1-0 away to Zesco United in their first CAF Confederations Cup group stage match, Smouha climbed into first with a 2-0 victory over Recreativo do Libolo on Wednesday.

With just 12 minutes gone, Smouha took the lead after Islam Mohareb’s cross found Ahmed Raouf, who headed the ball home emphatically.

The Angolan outfit failed to pose any serious threat to the hosts, and the first half ended 1-0.

Mohareb picked out Raouf once again in the 51st minute, but the latter’s shot was saved by the goalkeeper.

The Egyptians were awarded a penalty in the 69th minute, but Mohareb proceeded to miss from the spot, as the home support groaned.

Nevertheless Mohareb got his goal in injury time, as he sealed a comfortable victory for the Alexandrians.

Smouha will now face Hilal Obayed of Sudan home and away in the next two rounds of group stage matches.
