Egypt international Mohamed Abdel-Shafy played the 90 minutes as Ahli Jeddah overcame Ahli Dubai to secure a spot in the AFC Champions League quarter-final.

The Saudi side advanced to the quarters with a 4-2 aggregate score as they defeated the UAE side 3-1 in the second leg of the last 16 on Monday. The first leg, which was held in Saudi Arabia, ended in a 1-1 draw.

The guests opened the scoring at Al-Rashid Stadium after 18 minutes through Taisir Al-Jassim. Six minutes later, it was already 2-0 in favour of the Saudi side after Hussain Al Mogahwi scored with a powerful strike from outside the box.

To add insult to injury, the UAE side lost Makhete Diop to a red card just before the hour mark, after he was sent off for a second booking.

With 18 minutes to go, Saad Abdul-Amir scored a penalty to make it 3-0 and seal the qualification for the Jeddah-based side.

The UAE side scored a late consolation goal through Asamoah Gyan who converted from the spot in the injury time as the game ended 3-1 for Al Ahli Jeddah.
