AS Roma announced the departure of the team’s head coach Luciano Spalletti after both parties agreed to not renew contracts.

The club’s official website announced the news after Roma secured second place in the Seria A and automatically qualified to the 2017-18 Champions League as they defeated Genoa 3-2 on Sunday.

“We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Luciano Spalletti for all of his hard work and the significant contribution he has made to the club since his return,” said Roma President Jim Pallotta. “Under his stewardship this season, the team has won more Serie A points and scored more goals than any side in Roma’s history. We wish Luciano all the best for the future.”

This was the second spell for Spalletti with Roma as he joined the team in January 2016. The 58-year-old coach managed to win before two Coppa Italia and one Supercoppa Italiana during his first stint with the Giallorossi between the years 2005 and 2009.

“This club is on a constant path of growth and that will continue with the appointment of a new coach who shares our values and philosophy and who will continue to help us take AS Roma forward,” Pallotta concluded.
