Al Ahly chairman Mahmoud Taher praised the Red Devils after sealing the Egyptian Premier League title following a 2-2 draw with second-placed Misr El-Maqassa.

The Red Devils have been crowned Egyptian champions for the 39th time in their history and for the second consecutive season with four games left to play, topping the league with 76 points, 12 clear of title rivals Maqassa.

Taher congratulated Al Ahly manager Hossam El-Badry and the players over an “exceptional campaign”, and dedicated the league title to Al Ahly fans.

“This achievement is a testament to the great effort the coach and the players had made throughout the season. Winning the league title without conceding a single defeat is an evidence that we’ve enjoyed an exceptional season,” Taher said.

“I dedicate this title to Al Ahly fans who always support the club,” Taher added, urging them to support the team against Wydad Casablanca.

After securing the league title, Al Ahly will now focus on their CAF Champions League campaign. Record eight-time African champions Al Ahly, who top Group D with four points, will face Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca in their third group stage match on June 4. The Cairo giants last won the title in 2013.

“Our main and most important goal is winning the CAF Champions League to return to the FIFA Club World Cup,” he concluded.
