Smouha have been held to a 1-1 draw against Sudan’s Hilal Obayed in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage at Borg El-Arab Stadium on Saturday.

The Alexandria-based side currently sit on top of Group C with four points, one above Zesco United and Recreativo do Libolo who still have a game in hand.

Six minutes before the break, the hosts were awarded a penalty and Ahmed Hassan Mekki converted from the spot to give his side a 1-0 lead.

Around 20 minutes into the second half, Smouha’s Mahmoud Ezzat scored an own goal to level the score as a cross from the Sudanese side deflected off the Egyptian centre-back into Mohamed Abo-Gabal’s net.

Ahmed Raouf was close to regaining the lead for the hosts, however, his header was blocked by Hilal keeper Ahmed Abdel-Azim. Smouha kept pushing forward for a goal to collect the three points but failed as both sides shared the spoils.

Smouha, who lost to Zesco United and defeated Recreativo do Libolo in the first two rounds, will play away against Hilal Obayed on June 20.
