Al Ahli to face Persepolis in AFC Champions League quarterfinal

The AFC Champions League 2012 runners-up Al Ahli are set to face Iran’s Persepolis in the tournament’s quarter-final as the ties were announced on Tuesday.

Egypt international  and his teammates managed to qualify to the quarter-finals as the Saudi Professional League runners-up overcame Ahli Dubai with a 4-2 aggregate score.

The first leg for West Asian teams (Al Ahli, Al Ain, Al Hilal and Persepolis) will be played on August 21 and 22, while the second leg will be played on September 11 and 12. The Jeddah-based club will head to Iran first and then host Persepolis in Saudi Arabia for the second match.

The winners of the 2017 AFC Champions League will qualify as the AFC representative at the 2017 FIFA Club World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
