Iraq FA: Egypt agreed to face Iraq in friendly
Iraqi Football Association president, Abdel-Khaled Massoud, said that five national teams including Egypt sent their initial approvals for facing the national team in friendly matches in the next period.
This comes as FIFA decided to partially lift the ban that was imposed on the country in 2013 after a coach was killed by security forces. The ban was lifted in May and only for three months to assess Iraq’s ability host friendly matches.
The team recently faced Jordan in a friendly that they won 1-0 as they aim to lift the ban completely. The match was attended by 65,000 fans in Basra International Stadium.
The federation’s president said that Egypt, Algeria, Syria, Palastine and Iran all gave their initial approvals to play against the Lions of Mesopotamia. Massoud assured that they will send official invitations to these national teams soon.
