Walid Azarou confirms move to Al Ahly
Morocco international Walid Azarou has confirmed that he is leaving DHJ to join Egyptian Premier League champions Al Ahly this summer.
The 21-year-old became Hossam El-Badry’s main target after Souleymane Coulibaly fled Egypt without the club’s permission, which made the Red Devils lodge complaint to FIFA against him.
Azarou has reportedly caught the interest of several clubs, including France’s Montpellier HSC, Swiss side Lausanne, and Morocco’s champions Wydad Casablanca, but he opted to choose Al Ahly.
“It is true that I received offers from Europe and especially from France, but I preferred to choose Al Ahly’s offer, which was more interesting,” Azarou told Lions de l’Atlas.
“When I received the offer I immediately informed my club that I wanted to go to Al Ahly. I know that this great club will open the door to other horizons,” he added.
It’s worth mentioning that Walid finished the 2016-17 campaign as the Moroccan league’s fourth top goal scorer with 12 goals, leading his side to the second place, which guaranteed them a place in the CAF Champions League next season.
