Cuper: Egypt don’t rely solely on Mohamed Salah
Egypt manager Hector Cuper revealed that he has no plans to change his strategy when the Pharaohs face Tunisia on Monday as he highlighted the importance of the upcoming game.
Egypt will kick off their qualifying campaign for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations with a tough away test against North African rivals Tunisia scheduled for midnight CLT on Monday.
“It’s very important to kick off our campaign with a win especially if it’s away from home,” said Cuper in the pre-match press conference.
The Argentinean added that the Egyptians have high hopes for the national team after the Pharaohs’ performance in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon in which they lost the final to Cameroon. He stressed that Tunisia clash will be very difficult yet they’ll focus on achieving victory.
When asked about the possibility of changing his strategy in Rades, the 61-year-old said he’s “not courageous enough to change the team tactics in a competitive game”.
“I will not change my strategy as long as we win. However, I’m always ready to surprise our opponents.
“There are definitely some aspects that need to be improved but this requires time,” he added.
The former Valencia coach acknowledged the importance of AS Roma winger Mohamed Salah but stressed that the Pharaohs don’t rely solely on him.
“Salah is definitely a key player but he’s not alone. If Tunisia succeeded in stopping him we have other solutions,” he explained
Cuper also believes Egypt will be able to cope without Anderlecht midfielder Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet who was excluded from the squad through injury. He added that Al Ahly midfielder Abdallah El-Said who suffered from fatigue is ready for the game.
