Egyptian squash player Mohamed El Shorbagy claimed the 2016/17 PSA Dubai World Series Finals after defeating England’s former World No.1 James Willstrop.

After qualifying for the first time since November, El Shorbagy won his first ever World Series Finals crown and his first Tour title as he overcame Willstrop 12-10, 11-9, 11-8 in 57 minutes. El Shorbagy also defeated Willstrop earlier in the tournament in the opening game.

“It’s a very emotional win. I lost some confidence in myself during the season but I feel like I bounced back this week,” said the 26-year-old. “I don’t want to lose. I hate losing. This season I didn’t play with my spirit, but I’m really proud I got that back this week. It was my best squash since being World No.1.”

On the other side, Egyptian World Champion Nour El Sherbini failed to win the title after she lost the final match to defending champion Laura Massaro who was playing her third World Series Final.

This was the second time the two players faced each other in the tournament. El Sherbini won the best-of-three games and qualified second in Group B, but Massaro was victorious in the best-of-five games final and became the second woman ever after Malaysian legend Nicol David to win two World Series Finals titles.
