PREVIEW: Egypt visit Tunisia to kick off 2019 AFCON qualifying
Egypt face off against Tunisia in Rades, as they kick off their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
With kickoff scheduled for midnight CLT on Monday, Hector Cuper’s men will be aiming for a positive result in what is arguably their toughest fixture in qualifying Group J.
Given Niger and Swaziland’s 0-0 draw earlier, a victory in this fixture will guarantee top spot and a two-point cushion over the nearest rivals after the first round of matches.
Led by recently hired Nabil Maaloul, Tunisia will be aiming to put their dismal 2017 Africa Cup of Nations performances behind them, and avenge their 1-0 friendly loss to the Pharaohs in early January.
The 54-year-old named a largely local-based squad for the encounter, with many of the players that featured in the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon excluded.
Cuper, meanwhile, has mostly kept his squad the same, although Amr Gamal and Hossam Ashour have been called up by the Argentine.
Prediction: Tunisia 1-1 Egypt – The encounter will be tricky for both sides, and a draw seems to be a likely outcome with both teams sure to be cautious in the early rounds.
