Tunisia manager Nabil Maaloul reveals tactics used to beat Egypt
Tunisia hosted the Pharaohs at Rades Stadium and defeated Hector Cuper’s men 1-0 in the first round of the 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
“The game was not easy, but our players were ready and presented great efforts. The most important thing for us was winning,” Maaloul told beIN sports after winning his first game with the team. “We snatched the game from the 2017 AFCON runner ups and the top African team.”
Maaloul explained that his team managed to stop Egypt’s key tactics using a defensive strategy that assigned Mohamed Amin to mark Abdallah El-Said and prevent him from creating any chances. “In addition to a man-to-man marking for Mohamed Salah and Ramadan Sobhi, two players who possess threatening skills. We also pressured Egypt’s defense line early in the game,” he explained.
The Tunisian coach, who was recently assigned to lead the team, expressed his happiness as his players are currently in good spirits after this important win, especially in such a vital time as the season is ending.
