VIDEO: Shikabala’s last-gasp goal hands Zamalek victory over Aswan
Mahmoud Abdel-Razek Shikabala scored late as Zamalek beat Aswan 1-0 at Petrosport Stadium in gameweek 31 of the Egyptian Premier League on Thursday.
Zamalek controlled the game and had a number of early chances by Shikabala, Mostafa Fathi, and Stanley Ohawuchi. The most dangerous chance for the White Knights came around the half-hour mark when Ali Gabr’s header hit the post.
Despite controlling the match, Zamalek couldn’t find the breakthrough in the first half as many chances went to waste with the score being 0-0 at half time.
The second half followed the same pattern with Zamalek creating most of the chances but not being clinical enough to take the lead.
As the game seemed to be headed for a draw, Shikabala scored the winner in the 90th minute. Mahmoud El-Wensh’s cross from inside the box found the unmarked Zamalek skipper, who slotted home to give his side the three points.
The result leaves Zamalek, who are looking to secure a spot in next year’s CAF Champions League, in third place with 60 points, four away from second-placed Misr El-Maqassa, who have a game in hand.
Meanwhile, Aswan who are fighting to avoid relegation sit 15th on 25 points with three games to go.
