Salah not worth €40m, says Liverpool legend Steve Nicol
Liverpool legend and pundit Steve Nicol believes Mohamed Salah is not worth the huge €40m sum because he won’t start for Jürgen Klopp’s side.
The Egyptian move to the English giants is nearing completion after Liverpool give in to AS Roma demands. Sources confirm to KingFut that the next bid for Salah would be a record-fee €45 million, however, the Liverpool legend has his doubts over the deal.
“It’s a lot of money for Liverpool to buy a player, who, if everybody is fit, I don’t think starts,” Nicol told ESPN.
“You play Coutinho on the left, you play Mane on the right. I don’t think you play Salah through the middle, that means he doesn’t start.
“As far as the squad, obviously Liverpool are in the Champions League yes, but for £40m? I don’t think so,” he added.
Salah had a brilliant season with the Giallorossi, recording 15 goals and 13 assists in 31 league appearances, guiding Roma to the second place in Serie A, which guaranteed them a place in the UEFA Champions League next season.
It is worth noting that the former Chelsea winger was one of only eight players in Europe’s top five leagues to record double figures for goals and assists last season.
