Paul Put: We must play with intelligence against Zamalek

USM Alger manager Paul Put touched on a number of subjects ahead of his side’s home match against Zamalek in the third round of the CAF Champions League group stage.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Put said, “It’s always important to get a win would be a nice scenario but in football anything can happen and it’s a difficult game. We have to be honest: Zamalek is a good team so we must be very attentive; just because we are playing at home doesn’t mean we should attack like foolish people- we must play with a lot of intelligence.”

“It’s always a loss missing key players because you must ensure the balance of the team and how to solve the problem of the missing players. Playing at home you must think offensive you cannot only think defensive but it gives me a lot of headache,” the 61-year-old continued.

“This is difficult because it’s the end of the season because it’s hard for players to stay motivated. Of course the CAF Champions League is the biggest tournament one can play and there’s motivation there but still it’s a long season to keep playing almost all year round.

“We must manage and try push players there’s a lot of things like they must keep their discipline in way of life. Also now it’s Ramadan where they cannot eat but must train so it’s very hard but that’s the situation,” he concluded.

The match is scheduled for June 21, and will be crucial to determining the standings at the halfway point of the group stage.
