Moroccan side Raja Casablanca have appointed Juan Carlos Garrido as their new head coach, the club announced on Tuesday.

The former Al Ahly manager took over as Raja coach one week after the resignation of Abdelhak Benchikha from his position at the Moroccan side.

During his stint at the Red Devils, the Spaniard won two trophies, lifting the CAF Confederation Cup after beating Séwé Sport in the final and winning the Egyptian Super Cup after beating arch-rivals Zamalek on penalties.

He was sacked in May 2015 following the club’s CAF Champions League exit at the hands of Morocco’s Moghreb Tetouan.

The former Villarreal manager, 48, was appointed as manager of Saudi Arabian side Ettifaq manager in November 2016, but he was sacked after three months following a series of disappointing results.

Raja finished the 2016/17 domestic season in third place on 57 points, two behind second-placed Difaâ El Jadidi. Wydad Casablanca won the league title with 66 points.
