Mido: One of Shaqiri or Arnautović has to leave for Ramadan to progress
Egypt legend Mido believes that Stoke manager Mark Hughes should sell either Xherdan Shaqiri or Marko Arnautović in order for Ramadan Sobhi to progress.
The 20-year-old has joined the Potters last season from Egyptian giants Al Ahly, but has been limited to just 19 appearances in all competitions and had to wait for one of Arnautović or Shaqiri to be missing to get a start.
However, Mido believes that Ramadan had a great debut season, and that he could be better than his Austrian team-mate if he got a chance.
“I think it’s been a great debut season for Ramadan. I think that Mark Hughes gave him enough minutes to learn and to express himself and played him at the right times,” Mido said.
“He will be much better next season, but Stoke need to find him enough room to be a regular player because he proved that he can be a regular. One of Shaqiri or Arnautović has to leave for Ramadan to progress,” he added.
The Wadi Degla manager added that he advised Sobhi to work on his finishing and to learn how to run the channels, saying that he needs more playing time to learn.
“I have said before that I think Ramadan can be better than Arnautović and I still think that, yes definitely. He needs to learn and he can only learn by playing at such a young age,” Mido said.
“I met him in Cairo and I told him that he needs to work on his finishing and how to make runs behind defenders and not only asking for the ball to his feet. He needs to learn how to run the channels,” he added.
